The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is the central recruitment agency in India, responsible for conducting various exams for recruitment to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and other prestigious central government services. Eligibility Criteria for CDS 2023:

  1. Nationality: Candidates must be citizens of India, or subjects of Bhutan, Nepal, or Tibetan refugees who have settled in India.
  2. Age Limit: The age limit for candidates applying for the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Naval Academy (NA), and Air Force Academy (AFA) is between 20 and 24 years of age as on 1st July of the year in which they are appearing for the exam. For the Officer Training Academy (OTA), the age limit is between 20 and 25 years of age as on 1st July of the year in which they are appearing for the exam.
  3. Educational Qualifications: Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university or equivalent.

The CDS exam consists of two stages: the written exam and the interview.

  1. Written Exam: The written exam is conducted in three subjects – English, General Knowledge, and Elementary Mathematics (for IMA/OTA/AFA). For the NA, there is an additional paper on engineering subjects. The written exam is conducted for a total of 300 marks, with 100 marks for each subject.
  2. Interview: Candidates who clear the written exam are called for an interview, which is conducted by the Service Selection Board (SSB). The interview is conducted for a total of 200 marks and includes various tests, such as group discussion, psychological tests, and personal interviews.

Candidates can apply for the CDS exam through the official website of the UPSC. The steps for applying for the CDS exam are as follows:
